![]() ![]() In the scene where they were shown chasing Thelonious in their horse drawn onion carriage (yes it was a HUGE onion), the road was bumpy and our chairs rocked back and forth as though we were on that road! Neat. Interestingly, the chairs we sat on in the auditorium had motors fitted to them. I quickly realised that 4D was meant to excite your sense of feel/touch! Incredible! Right, so Fiona was kidnapped by Thelonious and so started the chase by Shrek and Donkey. Whenever Donkey sneezed, a short burst of water would be sprayed at your face (Donkey’s holographic face is facing you), as though you really got sneezed at! Surprising and yet very welcomed! ( Don’t sneeze at me when you see me though…) At the start of the film, it showed Donkey with Shrek and Fiona. The story is about Shrek having to save the Princess Fiona from Lord Farquaad’s Ghost. Little did I expect (and came to realise) that it was 4D for a reason! I went in thinking that it was just another 3D film because all they handed us were 3D glasses. One of the most memorable ‘ride’ I took was Shrek 4D Adventure. Although Shrek and company have now vacated their long-time home at Universal Orlando with all signs pointing to an additional “Minions” attraction taking its place, the attraction continues to play in some of Universal’s overseas parks and its main film has been given various home entertainment and streaming releases over the years, often re-titled as either “Shrek 3-D” or “The Ghost of Lord Farquaad,” meaning that, one way or another, its will continue to entertain old and new fans in some form for a long time to come.I went to Universal Studios Singapore last Friday. The poster also demanded anyone with information about the “bride-napping” ogre to report to Castle Duloc for torture under the thinly-veiled guise of “questioning,” a reference to the attraction’s pre-show that took place in Farquaad’s torture chamber. The one calling for the capture of Shrek himself featured a particular petty list of offenses including “being a big stupid ugly ogre in my perfect world,” demonstrating that death has not diminished Lord Farquaad’s hatred of fairy tale creatures and Shrek in particular. Some of these posters could have been spotted in the queue for “Shrek 4-D,” while the ones pictured above appeared in a glass case on the side to the attraction’s show building that faced the Donkey meet and greet area. One way he managed to do this is via wanted posters like the one pictured above, which feature messages that were unmistakably written by him. However, the deceased ruler of Duloc made his presence known to Universal Orlando visitors even before the main attraction began. A direct followup to DreamWorks Animation’s original “Shrek” film, the 3-D film followed the particularly bumpy road that Shrek and Princess Fiona took to go on their honeymoon, including the bride being kidnapped by the ghost of the villainous Lord Farquaad. In January 2022, Universal Studios Florida officially closed its “Shrek 4-D” attraction, which had been a staple at the park since opening in 2003. WARNING: According to the Universal Orlando website, “any interaction with the general public poses an elevated risk of being exposed to COVID-19, and we cannot guarantee that you will not be exposed during your visit.” For the latest information from Universal about any health and safety policies that are currently in place at the parks, click here.
